If you're a parent or guardian
For a teen ages 13–17, call the Illinois CARES Line at 1-800-345-9049 or 988. Stay with your teen, remove access to firearms and to medications (including over-the-counter ones), and let the crisis worker know about any medications your teen takes. Illinois schools can also connect you to a social worker the same day. If your teen is already our patient, tell us afterward so we can adjust the plan quickly.
When you're ready for ongoing care
After the immediate crisis passes, ongoing psychiatric care can make the next one less likely. We respond to intake requests within one business day and usually schedule evaluations within one to two weeks.
